Champagne Premier Cru Renaissance, Vadin-Plateau NV
Vadin-Plateau
In his late twenties, Yann Vadin now runs the 7ha estate of Vadin-Plateau with vineyards spread over 100 different parcels in the fine Premier Cru of Cumières to the north of Epernay and six other villages such as Ay, Damery, and Hautvillers.
Ploughing the soils and working organically has helped to produce wines with incredible purity, depth and resonance. Fermentation and initial ageing have been trialled with amphoras, cement eggs, and oak, and Yann prefers an extended period of bottle age.
Thes is a seriously exciting grower champagne – a lot more will be heard of Vadin-Plateau, and for now, represents exceptional value for money.
Yann produced this champagne from 40yo vines in Cumières. Made 80% from 2018 and 20% from 2017, it was neither fined nor filtered. This champagne has a fine bead, a beautiful floral, mineral nose, excellent depth and weight of attractive red fruits on the palate, with a well-judged dosage.
