Tenuta Le Potazzine is a small organic estate in Montalcino, Tuscany, founded in 1993 by Gigliola Giannetti. The name comes from a local expression meaning little birds, the affectionate nickname Gigliola’s mother gave to her daughters Viola and Sofia, who today work alongside her at the domaine. The estate farms around five hectares planted exclusively to Sangiovese, divided between the high altitude Le Prata plateau north of Montalcino at approximately 500 metres above sea level and lower lying parcels near Sant’Angelo in Colle. Vineyard work is entirely manual, with low yields and organic practices focused on preserving balance and site expression. In the cellar, vinification is resolutely traditional, with spontaneous fermentations and long ageing in large and medium sized Slavonian oak casks, aiming for finesse, clarity and longevity rather than power.

Brunello di Montalcino 2019 draws primarily from the higher altitude Le Prata vineyards, where the cooler exposure contributes aromatic lift and structural finesse. The 2019 vintage is widely regarded as one of balance and precision, with a long, even growing season and excellent ripeness achieved without excess heat. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel, followed by ageing for around thirty six months in large Slavonian oak botti. The wine shows classic Brunello restraint and clarity, with sour cherry, red plum, rose petal and subtle balsamic notes, supported by fine grained tannins and a long, mineral finish that promises graceful ageing.
