Bourgogne Rouge Les Chagniot, Maison Thiriet Camille Thiriet 2023
Maison Thiriet Camille Thirie
Born in Paris with no family links to wine, Camille Thiriet’s path into Burgundy was driven by curiosity rather than inheritance. Initially drawn to perfumery after literary studies, she became fascinated by aroma recognition, a sensitivity that later became central to her winemaking. Studies in Beaune and Bordeaux followed, though she soon realised that hands on experience mattered more to her than academic theory. Her early career was shaped at Nicolas Potel’s winery, where she met her partner Matt and deepened her understanding of Burgundy’s terroirs. In 2016, they released their first 2,000 bottles from a small garage in Comblanchien, working with minimal resources but clear intent. Early guidance from figures such as Bernard Noblet of Domaine de la Romanée Conti and Jérémie Seysses of Domaine Dujac helped refine her approach. Today, Camille works across Corgoloin and Comblanchien in the Côte de Nuits, producing precise, site driven wines defined by intuition, observation and a hands on, unforced philosophy in both vineyard and cellar.
Bourgogne Rouge Les Chagniots is sourced from a small Pinot Noir parcel situated on limestone and clay soils at the foot of the Côte, where the combination of well drained soils and cooler exposures produces a wine of remarkable lift and finesse. The site consistently delivers fruit with bright natural acidity and finely detailed aromatics, qualities that align perfectly with the Maison Thiriet philosophy. Harvesting is carried out by hand, followed by fermentation with indigenous yeasts and a generous proportion of whole clusters to enhance complexity and structure. Extraction remains deliberately delicate, favouring infusion over force, before élevage in older oak barrels allows the wine to develop texture while preserving transparency. The resulting wine is intensely aromatic, showing layers of wild strawberry, redcurrant and Morello cherry alongside rose petal, crushed herbs and subtle earthy spice. The palate is vibrant and finely textured, with silky tannins, energetic acidity and a long, chalky finish that reflects both the limestone soils and the precision of the winemaking.
