Born in Paris with no family links to wine, Camille Thiriet’s path into Burgundy was driven by curiosity rather than inheritance. Initially drawn to perfumery after literary studies, she became fascinated by aroma recognition, a sensitivity that later became central to her winemaking. Studies in Beaune and Bordeaux followed, though she soon realised that hands on experience mattered more to her than academic theory. Her early career was shaped at Nicolas Potel’s winery, where she met her partner Matt and deepened her understanding of Burgundy’s terroirs. In 2016, they released their first 2,000 bottles from a small garage in Comblanchien, working with minimal resources but clear intent. Early guidance from figures such as Bernard Noblet of Domaine de la Romanée Conti and Jérémie Seysses of Domaine Dujac helped refine her approach. Today, Camille works across Corgoloin and Comblanchien in the Côte de Nuits, producing precise, site driven wines defined by intuition, observation and a hands on, unforced philosophy in both vineyard and cellar.

Bourgogne Rouge En la Place is sourced from a small parcel of Pinot Noir planted on limestone rich soils in the Côte de Beaune, a site chosen for its ability to produce a Bourgogne of uncommon precision and character. As with all Maison Thiriet wines, farming is carefully monitored and harvesting carried out by hand, with fruit selected for freshness and balance rather than maximum ripeness. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts and a significant proportion of whole clusters, enhancing aromatic lift and structural detail. Extraction is deliberately gentle, allowing the vineyard’s natural texture and energy to emerge without heaviness. Élevage is carried out in older oak barrels, preserving purity while adding subtle complexity. The wine opens with vivid aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry and crushed raspberry, layered with rose petals, spice and a touch of forest floor. The palate is bright and finely detailed, with silky tannins, lively acidity and a long, mineral finish that far exceeds expectations for the appellation.
