Domaine des Vignes du Maynes is based in Cruzille in the northern Mâconnais and has been farmed by the Guillot family since the early twentieth century. Julien Guillot took full responsibility for the estate in 1998 and immediately committed the vineyards to organic and biodynamic farming, making it one of the earliest adopters in Burgundy. The domaine works a mosaic of old vine parcels on limestone and clay soils at elevations between 300 and 400 metres, with many vines planted between the nineteen twenties and nineteen fifties. All work in the vines is manual, yields are extremely low, and harvesting is carried out parcel by parcel with strict selection. In the cellar Guillot follows a resolutely low intervention philosophy built on whole cluster fermentations, indigenous yeasts, no additions and long élevage in neutral vessels, aiming to transmit site, vine age and vintage character with absolute clarity.
Bourgogne Rouge Auguste 2022 is sourced from a selection of old vine parcels planted on mixed limestone and clay slopes around Cruzille. The warmer and drier 2022 vintage produced fruit of greater depth while retaining balance due to altitude and vine age. Harvesting was carried out by hand, with whole clusters fermented using indigenous yeasts. Extraction was kept gentle to avoid heaviness, followed by ageing in neutral barrels. The wine shows darker red fruits, subtle spice and earth, framed by fine tannins and steady acidity.
