Cyprien Arlaud is part of the third generation at Domaine Arlaud in Morey Saint Denis, a family estate established in the mid twentieth century with holdings across the Côte de Nuits. He has progressively converted the vineyards to organic and biodynamic farming, with a strong emphasis on soil health and precise vineyard work. His approach in the cellar is restrained and detail focused, aiming to translate each site with clarity and finesse rather than power, and his parcels are worked with precision to highlight the nuances of each climat.
Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits Rouge comes from higher altitude vineyards set above the main Côte de Nuits slope, where cooler temperatures and later ripening help preserve acidity and aromatic lift. Though classified at regional level, these sites benefit from limestone rich soils and a more marginal climate, giving wines with freshness and definition. Arlaud typically uses a proportion of whole bunch depending on conditions, with fermentation by indigenous yeasts and gentle extraction to maintain purity. Ageing takes place in French oak with minimal new wood. The wine is vivid and energetic, showing crunchy red berry fruit, light spice and a subtle herbal edge, with fine tannins and a bright, lifted finish.
