Jean-Claude Rateau is a true pioneer of biodynamics in Burgundy, having converted his vineyards in Beaune as early as 1979—long before it was fashionable. Inspired by the writings of Rudolf Steiner and a deep respect for nature, Rateau has quietly cultivated a reputation for purity, balance, and terroir transparency. He works with meticulous care across some of Beaune’s finest sites, including Les Bressandes and Les Reversées, farming by hand and horse, and vinifying with minimal intervention. His wines are lifted, vibrant, and deeply rooted in place—an authentic reflection of both the land and the steady, grounded philosophy that guides his work.
This wine offers a rich bouquet of blackberry, violet, and earthy notes, complemented by hints of citrus, plum, and spice. The palate is round and ripe, with firm acidity and deep black fruit flavors, leading to a long, harmonious finish. Produced from a blend of young and old vines on brown limestone subsoil, it showcases the elegance and complexity characteristic of this premier cru site. Aged for 18 months in used oak barrels, it is best enjoyed after 5 to 7 years of aging.
