Founded in 1848, Domaine Lissner is nestled in the historic village of Wolxheim, 20km west of Strasbourg. Its vineyards thrive on a fault zone rich in sandstone and limestone, once quarried for Strasbourg’s fortifications. Agronomist Bruno Schloegel took over from his uncle in 2001, joined by his son Théo. Together, they champion a Fukuoka-inspired approach, fostering biodiversity with unploughed, unmowed vineyards. Vines are woven, not trimmed, and co-planted fruit trees create symbiotic systems.
A beautifully pure Auxerrois from Bruno and Théo Schloegel’s remarkable vineyards around Wolxheim in northern Alsace. The vines are farmed organically with an unusually hands-off approach, encouraging spontaneous vegetation and biodiversity while avoiding tillage and mowing.
Ripe pear and yellow apple meet white flowers, peach and gentle citrus notes. The palate is rounded and textural yet wonderfully fresh, with soft acidity and the distinctive saline character found throughout Lissner’s wines. Generous, energetic and quietly complex — a particularly expressive take on this often overlooked Alsatian variety.
