Domaine Belargus was created by Ivan Massonnat to revive and celebrate the historic crus of Anjou Noir, assembling an extraordinary collection of monopoles and terroirs once prized by the region’s greatest growers. The domaine centres on Chenin grown in the schist, quartz and volcanic soils that shape the hillsides of Savennières, Quarts de Chaume and the Layon valley. The vineyards are farmed organically and biodynamically, with meticulous canopy management, low yields and detailed parcel by parcel harvesting. Vinifications rely on indigenous yeasts, gentle pressing and patient ageing in large neutral vessels to reveal precision, tension and the layered mineral expression that Chenin achieves on these ancient slopes.

Anjou Veau 2021 comes from a sheltered hillside parcel where schist is interspersed with volcanic elements that lend a dark mineral tone and firm structural frame. The cool year encouraged slow ripening and naturally high acidity, creating a wine of precision and drive. Manual harvesting was carried out in several small waves, followed by gentle pressing and native yeast fermentation. Ageing took place in older barrels on fine lees to build texture without obscuring the site’s clarity. The style is focused and elegant, marked by citrus oil, stone fruits, smoke and a savoury mineral line.
