Domaine Belargus was created by Ivan Massonnat to revive and celebrate the historic crus of Anjou Noir, assembling an extraordinary collection of monopoles and terroirs once prized by the region’s greatest growers. The domaine centres on Chenin grown in the schist, quartz and volcanic soils that shape the hillsides of Savennières, Quarts de Chaume and the Layon valley. The vineyards are farmed organically and biodynamically, with meticulous canopy management, low yields and detailed parcel by parcel harvesting. Vinifications rely on indigenous yeasts, gentle pressing and patient ageing in large neutral vessels to reveal precision, tension and the layered mineral expression that Chenin achieves on these ancient slopes.
Anjou Ronceray 2022 blends several exceptional schist parcels that surround the celebrated hill of Chaume, each contributing layers of texture and aromatic complexity. The warm and dry 2022 vintage produced small berries of impressive concentration, yet cooling breezes maintained freshness. Harvest took place entirely by hand in multiple rounds to preserve balance. After slow pressing, the wine fermented with native yeasts and aged on fine lees in older barrels and foudres. The style is generous yet controlled, offering ripe orchard fruits, gentle spice, honeycomb and a persistent mineral finish.
