Domaine Belargus was created by Ivan Massonnat to revive and celebrate the historic crus of Anjou Noir, assembling an extraordinary collection of monopoles and terroirs once prized by the region’s greatest growers. The domaine centres on Chenin grown in the schist, quartz and volcanic soils that shape the hillsides of Savennières, Quarts de Chaume and the Layon valley. The vineyards are farmed organically and biodynamically, with meticulous canopy management, low yields and detailed parcel by parcel harvesting. Vinifications rely on indigenous yeasts, gentle pressing and patient ageing in large neutral vessels to reveal precision, tension and the layered mineral expression that Chenin achieves on these ancient slopes.

Anjou Quarts 2021 is drawn from warm, stony parcels that sit close to the historical boundaries of Quarts de Chaume, defined by schist and quartz that bring both depth and bright mineral edges. The vintage delivered modest yields and fruit with high natural acidity, giving the wine a linear yet concentrated profile. Grapes were picked by hand as ripeness gradually progressed, then pressed slowly to capture purity. Fermentation with native yeasts and ageing in a mix of older barrels and foudres shaped a wine of quiet power, showing orchard fruits, quince, gentle spice and a persistent saline finish.
