Champagne L’âme de 2015 1er Cru, Bertrand-Delespierre 2015
Bertrand-Delespierre
Bertrand-Delespierre was established in 1975 by Jean-Pierre Delespierre in Cramant, a key village in the Côte des Blancs, Champagne. The estate began with just 2 hectares of old-vine Chardonnay on the village’s renowned chalk slopes and expanded steadily over the following decades. Bertrand Delespierre, who assumed management in 2002, trained in oenology at Reims University and worked with several established Côte des Blancs domaines before returning to the family estate. The estate now farms 7 hectares of Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards across Cramant and Avize, with vines up to 60 years old. All parcels are farmed organically, with a focus on soil vitality, biodiversity, and precise canopy management to balance yield and concentration. Grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel and neutral oak, with extended lees ageing to develop aromatic complexity and texture. Minimal sulphur is used, and wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered. Bertrand’s philosophy emphasises low intervention and terroir expression, producing Champagnes that are precise, mineral-driven, and reflective of Côte des Blancs’ chalky soils.
Champagne L’âme de 2015 1er Cru comes from a single Cramant vineyard parcel, one of the village’s most prized 1er Cru sites with deep chalk soils that lend finesse and precision. The 2015 vintage was sunny and balanced, producing Chardonnay with vibrant acidity and intense aromatic lift. Grapes were hand-harvested, fermented with indigenous yeasts in neutral barrels, and aged on lees for four years before disgorgement. The cuvée shows fine citrus, white flowers, and chalky minerality, culminating in a structured, elegant, and persistent finish.
