Bernard Gripa is one of the benchmark growers of Saint Joseph, based in Mauves in the Northern Rhône. The family domaine has been farming hillside parcels for several generations, with Bernard taking the reins in the early 2000s and refining the style towards greater precision and purity. The vineyards are largely granite based, lending tension and aromatic lift to Syrah, while cellar work is classical and restrained, favouring balance and site transparency over extraction or heavy oak influence.
Saint Joseph Rouge 2023 is a focused, granite driven expression of Syrah. The vintage delivered ripe fruit with preserved acidity, allowing both generosity and structure. The wine shows blackberry, damson and cracked pepper, framed by fine tannins and subtle spice from oak ageing. It carries freshness and linearity, finishing with a savoury mineral edge typical of the appellation’s best hillside sites.
