Christian Boulanger and Mathieu Allante are two Jura natives who spent over 15 years working alongside the legendary Domaine Labet before establishing their own domaine. Drawing on their experience with one of the region's most respected producers, they set about acquiring small parcels of old vines across the southern Jura, focusing on forgotten varieties and distinctive vineyard sites. Their approach is firmly rooted in organic and biodynamic principles, with spontaneous fermentations, minimal cellar intervention and an emphasis on preserving the individual character of each vineyard. Working with tiny quantities and exceptionally old plantings, their wines have quickly become some of the more sought after bottles in the Jura. These are thoughtful, uncompromising wines from two winemakers who know the region intimately.
Pataratte comes from a historic vineyard site in Rotalier, planted in 1948 on Bathonian limestone. The parcel contains an unusual planting of Trousseau à la Dame, an old and particularly cherished selection of the variety, producing wines with considerable depth and structure. This is a more concentrated interpretation of Trousseau, combining wild red and dark berry fruit with earthy spice, smoky undertones and a distinctive mineral freshness. There is plenty of structure here, but the wine retains the natural energy and aromatic lift that make Jura Trousseau so compelling. A rare expression of an increasingly hard to find historic grape selection, produced in tiny quantities.
