Corrado Dottori’s family has tended vines in San Michele, near Cupramontana in the Marche, for three generations. At 300 metres above sea level, the rolling hills, clay-limestone soils, and marked day–night temperature shifts provide ideal conditions for the region’s characterful local grapes. Across seven hectares, biodiversity is encouraged — fava beans, peas, alfalfa, wild mint, and more grow between the vines — supporting healthy plants and low yields for pure, expressive fruit. In the cantina, the approach is equally sincere, resulting in wines that are among the finest in the Marche and some of our favourites in Italy.
This wonderful Verdicchio comes from vineyards planted over clay and limestone in the hills outside Cupramontana. The wine is fermented and aged in old concrete vats and while the majority is given a direct press, around twenty percent sits on skins for a few days, lending a little flesh and grip.
From a cooler vintage, this has a delicate perfume of almonds and brine and a gentle hint of salt and bitterness, which bring refreshment and intrigue.
