Robert Denogent farms in the Mâconnais, centred around the village of Mâcon and its surrounding appellations. The family has worked the land for generations, but Robert formally took over the vineyards in 2005 after studying oenology and gaining experience in both Burgundy and Loire estates. Today he manages around 8 hectares across clay-limestone and marl soils, focusing on low-intervention viticulture and organic practices. Every stage of vineyard management is done by hand, from pruning to harvesting, with cover crops, compost, and biodiversity measures central to his approach. In the cellar, Denogent relies on spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, ageing in stainless steel or neutral oak depending on the parcel, and minimal sulphur use, aiming to let each terroir’s character express itself fully.
Mâcon Villages Les Sardines 2023 comes from south-facing limestone-rich parcels in Mâcon. The 2023 vintage had an early flowering in late April, with a warm, dry summer punctuated by cooler nights. Grapes were hand-harvested in early September, gently pressed, and fermented spontaneously in stainless steel, then aged 18 months on fine lees with minimal sulphur. The wine shows orchard fruit, quince, citrus peel, and floral notes, lifted by stony minerality. The palate is precise and linear, with bright acidity and a long, terroir-driven finish.
