Anne & Jean François Ganevat have become some of the most influential names in natural wine, renowned for producing wines that combine extraordinary precision with a deep respect for traditional farming and minimal intervention. Based in Rotalier, in the southern Jura, Jean François Ganevat works with an exceptional collection of old vineyards while also creating a négociant range that allows him to explore vineyards and varieties beyond the family estate. These wines follow the same philosophy as his domaine bottlings: organic farming, careful handling and allowing the character of the fruit to speak without excessive manipulation.
La Croix des Batailles is a Vin de France Pinot Noir that showcases Ganevat’s ability to capture purity, freshness and energy outside the confines of appellation rules. Sourced from organic vineyards farmed by growers who share Ganevat’s philosophy, the wine is made with the same gentle approach found throughout his cellar. Hand harvested grapes undergo whole bunch fermentation with indigenous yeasts, using a cold semi carbonic maceration to preserve the bright, expressive character of the fruit. The wine is then aged for around 10 months in wooden vessels before being bottled unfined, unfiltered and without added sulphur. Aromas of black cherry, wild strawberry and violet are layered with subtle herbal, smoky and earthy notes. The palate is vibrant and silky, with delicate tannins, juicy red fruit and a refreshing mineral finish that makes this a wonderfully expressive and effortless red.
