Marcel Lapierre, born in 1950 in Villié-Morgon, was a pioneering figure in the natural wine movement. Taking over his family's domaine in 1973, he transformed it by embracing organic and biodynamic practices, influenced by the teachings of Jules Chauvet. Lapierre rejected chemical additives, opting for native yeast fermentations and minimal intervention, allowing the Gamay grape to express its true character. His approach revitalized the reputation of Beaujolais wines, emphasizing purity, freshness, and terroir. As a member of the "Gang of Four," alongside Jean Foillard, Guy Breton, and Jean-Paul Thévenet, he inspired a generation of winemakers. Today, his legacy continues through his children, Mathieu and Camille, who uphold his commitment to natural winemaking.

The cuvée Marcel Lapierre is only made in great vintages – it's a selection of the oldest vines at the domaine (more than 100yo on 2.5ha) sourced from the climats Côte du Py (roughly 70% of the blend) as well as Douby that borders the Fleurie appellation. The vines in Côte du Py grow on volcanic schist called 'roches bleues' whereas Douby sits on shallow granitic soil.

Floral on the nose, this wine can be reduced in its youth, the palate is structured with fine tannins, concentration, and good acidity at its core; it is rich and layered, with spices, herbs, and earthy tones mingled with an irony finish.
