Bourgogne Rouge En la Place, Maison Thiriet Camille Thiriet 2023
Maison Thiriet Camille Thirie
Maison Thiriet was founded by Camille Thiriet and Mattéo in 2016 and has rapidly become one of Burgundy’s most exciting micro négociant projects. Based in Comblanchien in the Côte de Nuits, the pair work with a tiny selection of growers who share their commitment to meticulous viticulture and low intervention winemaking. Camille gained experience at several leading domaines, including extensive time with Claire Naudin, developing a philosophy centred on transparency, whole bunch fermentation and minimal cellar manipulation. Production remains extremely limited, with every cuvée vinified and bottled individually to preserve the identity of its vineyard source. The wines have quickly earned a reputation for combining Burgundian finesse with a distinctly contemporary energy, emphasising perfume, freshness and site expression above power.
Bourgogne Rouge En la Place is sourced from a small parcel of Pinot Noir planted on limestone rich soils in the Côte de Beaune, a site chosen for its ability to produce a Bourgogne of uncommon precision and character. As with all Maison Thiriet wines, farming is carefully monitored and harvesting carried out by hand, with fruit selected for freshness and balance rather than maximum ripeness. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts and a significant proportion of whole clusters, enhancing aromatic lift and structural detail. Extraction is deliberately gentle, allowing the vineyard’s natural texture and energy to emerge without heaviness. Élevage is carried out in older oak barrels, preserving purity while adding subtle complexity. The wine opens with vivid aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry and crushed raspberry, layered with rose petals, spice and a touch of forest floor. The palate is bright and finely detailed, with silky tannins, lively acidity and a long, mineral finish that far exceeds expectations for the appellation.
