Domaine Villet, a family estate established in 1900, entered a new era when Christine and Gérard assumed leadership in the 1980s. In 1988, they made the pioneering shift to organic viticulture, becoming early adopters in their region. Driven by their belief in the benefits of organic farming, Gérard abandoned chemical fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and synthetic fungicides. Instead, they embraced organic practices, using manure, compost, and organic materials. By the early 2000s, their vineyard treatments were limited to copper (bouillie bordelaise) for mildew and sulfur for oïdium. In recent years, they've further reduced copper and sulfur use by incorporating plant extracts like tea nettle, horsetail, willows, dandelions, and similar elements. The Villets maintain a hands-on approach, tending to the vines throughout the year to ensure their health and minimize risks. They encourage natural grass growth but also practice minimal tilling.
In vinification, they exclusively rely on natural yeasts, which allow the terroir to shine rather than imposing standardized flavors. Minimal sulfur is employed at the bottling stage. Christine and Gérard are a warm and unassuming couple deeply passionate about their work. Their dedication to organic farming and the well-being of their vines and ecosystem has inspired others in their region. The exceptional wines they produce exemplify the distinctive styles and expressions of their locale.
