Cyprien Arlaud
The domaine was founded in the years following the Second World War by Joseph Arlaud, who married Renée Amiot of Morey Saint Denis and began expanding the family vineyards in 1949. His son Hervé succeeded him in 1982, further enlarging the estate and strengthening its reputation for elegant, terroir driven wines.
Today the third generation leads the domaine. Cyprien, Bertille and Romain Arlaud farm around fifteen hectares spread across nineteen appellations, with a core focus on their eight premiers crus in Morey Saint Denis and three grands crus including Clos de la Roche, Charmes Chambertin and Clos Saint Denis. Since taking full responsibility in the early 2010s, Cyprien has steadily refined the wines toward greater precision and clarity.
The vineyards have been farmed biodynamically since 2009 and certified since 2014. Work is largely manual, with soils ploughed by two Auxois horses, Nougat and Oka. In the cellar fermentations are spontaneous, extraction is gentle and élevage measured, producing wines that balance the depth of the Côte de Nuits with striking purity and perfume.
