Amarone Classico Marask, Corte Marconi 2019
Corte Marconi
Corte Marconi is a small family estate in Sant'Anna d'Alfaedo, in the hills of Valpolicella Classica. Gabriele and his mother Giulia established the winery in 2019, drawing on generations of family farming and the area's distinctive Cimbrian heritage. They work organically, with a focus on biodiversity, indigenous grape varieties and spontaneous fermentations. Alongside the familiar Valpolicella varieties, they preserve less common local grapes, keeping a connection to the region's older viticultural traditions.
Màrask, meaning ‘cherry’ in the local Cimbrian language, is their Amarone and the estate's flagship wine. Made from Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella, the best bunches are carefully selected and dried before fermentation, concentrating flavour while retaining freshness. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by around a month of maceration. The wine then spends 36 months in tonneaux, a further year in stainless steel and another year in bottle. Expect concentrated cherry and dark fruit, dried herbs, sweet spice and bitter chocolate, balanced by firm tannins and a surprisingly fresh finish.
