Clos des Plantes was established by Olivier and Sophie Lejeune in Anjou after Olivier spent years travelling and studying viticulture around the world, including formative time in New Zealand and alongside some of the Loire Valley’s most respected Chenin Blanc producers. The estate is based in the renowned Montbenault sector of Anjou, an area celebrated for its black schist soils and home to some of the Loire’s most sought after Chenin Blanc vineyards. Farming is carried out organically, without herbicides or pesticides, with a strong focus on soil vitality and minimal intervention. In the cellar, fermentations are spontaneous, sulphur use is minimal and élevage is patient and deliberate, allowing the wines to express the depth, tension and mineral complexity that have made Montbenault one of the Loire’s most revered terroirs. Despite relatively small production, Clos des Plantes has developed a cult following amongst Chenin enthusiasts, with Poïèsis regarded as the estate’s defining expression of site and philosophy.

Poïèsis is sourced from old vine Chenin Blanc planted on the black schist soils of Montbenault, one of Anjou’s most celebrated terroirs. Named after the Greek word for creation, the wine represents the estate’s pursuit of a complete and transparent expression of vineyard, vintage and place. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts and minimal intervention, allowing the natural character of the fruit and soil to remain at the forefront. Élevage is carried out patiently to build texture and complexity while preserving the freshness and mineral tension that define great Montbenault Chenin. The wine shows aromas of quince, pear and ripe citrus layered with honeysuckle, beeswax and flinty mineral notes. The palate is concentrated yet remarkably poised, combining generous orchard fruit with vibrant acidity, subtle texture and a long saline finish that unfolds with precision and depth.
