Mark Angeli of Ferme de la Sansonnière is one of the Loire’s most uncompromising and influential vignerons. Based in Thouarcé in Anjou, he has farmed biodynamically since the late 1980s, cultivating living soils through horse ploughing and extremely low yields to capture depth without excess weight. In the cellar, fermentations are spontaneous and unhurried, with long élevage and minimal sulphur, allowing Chenin Blanc to express both site and season with clarity and precision.
Les Fouchardes is sourced from schist rich parcels in Anjou that deliver structure and a pronounced mineral spine. The 2023 vintage offered concentration alongside firm natural acidity, giving both breadth and tension. Aromatically the wine leans towards ripe pear, quince and citrus oil, with subtle honeyed undertones. On the palate it combines density with linear drive, finishing long, saline and ageworthy.
