Francs Côtes de Bordeaux, Chateau Cru Godard 2022
Chateau Cru Godard
A wonderfully honest, fruit-driven Bordeaux from Franck and Carine Richard, blending 65% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec from organically farmed, 45-year-old vines. The vineyards sit on south-facing clay-limestone slopes in Francs, where the relatively high altitude helps retain freshness. Fermentation takes place naturally with indigenous yeasts, followed by ageing split equally between tank and older barrels, with no new oak.
Ripe blackberry, black cherry and cassis meet tobacco, cocoa and subtle earthy spice. Generous and supple on the palate, with fine-grained tannins and a distinctive saline limestone character bringing freshness and tension. Classic Bordeaux, but with purity, energy and none of the excessive extraction or oak.
