Domaine Catherine and Pierre Breton is a respected estate in the Loire Valley working biodynamically and organically on parcels in Bourgueil, Chinon and Vouvray. The family has tended vines in this region for generations, and Catherine and Pierre focus on old vineyards, low yields and minimal intervention vinification with indigenous yeasts. Their work emphasises lively fruit and clarity of terroir from the varied soils of the Loire, combining tradition with thoughtful natural practices.
Bourgueil Perrieres 2020 is a flagship red wine made from 100 % Cabernet Franc grown on the clay siliceous Perrieres parcel with deeper clay limestone beneath. The vines are very old, often over ninety years, and the wine is destemmed before a period of maceration and fermentation with native yeasts. After malolactic fermentation, it is aged for around two years in barrels in troglodyte cellars before bottling. The wine shows intense ripe red and dark fruit aromas with spice and mineral notes, a smooth yet structured palate and firm but elegant tannins with excellent ageing potential.
