Lucien Boillot has been producing wines in Volnay since 1980, inheriting a family estate that had been cultivating Pinot Noir for several generations. Boillot now manages 5 hectares across Volnay, including premier cru sites Les Caillerets, Clos des Angles, and Les Brouillards, as well as village parcels. The estate is focused on low intervention viticulture with meticulous canopy management, hand harvesting, and minimal mechanical work. Soils are a mix of clay and limestone with varying slope exposure, giving each parcel distinct character. Boillot relies exclusively on indigenous yeast fermentations, and wines are aged in a combination of older and neutral French oak barrels for 12 to 16 months depending on cru, with minimal sulphur, no fining, and no filtration. The philosophy is to highlight the differences of each cru while preserving the elegance, aromatic lift, and minerality characteristic of Volnay.
Volnay 2022 comes from multiple village parcels on clay-limestone soils, providing a classic Volnay profile with soft red fruit, gentle tannins, and aromatic lift. The 2022 vintage produced wines of elegance and approachability. Grapes were hand-harvested, fermented with indigenous yeasts, and aged in older French oak and cement to maintain freshness.
