De Moor is a youthful yet deeply inspired producer in Burgundy, founded by Maud and Vincent de Moor, who bring fresh energy and a reverence for natural winemaking to this historic region. Based in the Chablis area, their vineyards span several appellations including Chitry, Bourgogne, and Chablis itself, planted on classic Kimmeridgian and Portlandian limestone soils that shape each wine’s distinct minerality and tension. Since launching their project in the mid 2010s, De Moor has embraced organic and biodynamic principles, with minimal intervention in the cellar, wild fermentations, little to no sulphur, and no filtration, allowing pure terroir expression and vintage character to shine through.
The 2023 Chablis Vendangeur Masqué is De Moor’s interpretation of youthful Chablis from Kimmeridgian limestone vineyards near the village of Chablis itself. The “Vendangeur Masqué” (“Masked Harvester”) name is a playful nod to the pandemic harvests of recent years, capturing a spirit of resilience and intimacy with the vineyard. The 2023 vintage in Chablis was cooler and more challenging, with late flowering and a long, slow ripening period that preserved fresh acidity and delicate aromatics. This wine is made from hand-harvested grapes fermented naturally and aged in a combination of old oak and stainless steel. The extended lees contact adds richness while maintaining a lean, stony backbone typical of Chablis terroir. The nose expresses chalky minerality, crisp green apple, lemon zest, and subtle white blossom notes. The palate is tight and energetic with fresh acidity, saline grip, and a clean, persistent finish that hints at classic Chablis structure and ageing potential.
