La Soufrandière was established in 1999 by brothers Jean Philippe and Jean Guillaume Bret, who took over their family's estate in Vinzelles, in the heart of the Mâconnais. Among the region's leading advocates of biodynamic viticulture, the brothers have built a reputation for producing precise, terroir driven Chardonnay. Their approach combines meticulous vineyard work with spontaneous fermentation, extended lees ageing and restrained use of oak. They also founded Bret Brothers, a négociant project that allows them to explore exceptional vineyard sites beyond their own estate.
La Bonnode is a distinctive monopole vineyard in Saint Véran, situated on a limestone rich hillside. Its biodynamically farmed Chardonnay vines produce fruit with impressive concentration and mineral definition. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts, followed by extended ageing on fine lees in oak barrels. Ripe citrus, white peach and orchard fruit sit alongside toasted hazelnut, delicate spice and a pronounced chalky character. Textural and generous, yet held together by fresh acidity and a long, saline finish.
