Domaine de la Tour du Bon is located at the highest point of the Bandol appellation in Le Brûlat du Castellet, perched on a limestone plateau just a few kilometres from the Mediterranean. The Hocquard family has farmed here since the 1960s, and today the domaine is led by Agnès Henry-Hocquard, who has guided it toward biodynamic practices and a more intuitive, light-touch winemaking style. The estate’s name means “the tower of good,” referencing a 13th-century watchtower nearby, and its wines reflect the balance and beauty of this sun-soaked but wind-cooled part of Provence.

The 2021 Bandol Rouge is primarily Mourvèdre, with smaller parts of Grenache and Cinsault, grown on limestone and clay soils. The vintage was cooler than average, resulting in a wine with brightness and fine detail. Grapes were destemmed and fermented with native yeasts in concrete, followed by ageing in large old foudres for 18 months. The result is both structured and refined, with aromas of black fruit, dried herbs and tapenade. The tannins are present but polished, carrying a long and savoury finish. A wine of depth, elegance and age-worthiness that remains true to Bandol’s rugged charm.
