Jérôme Prévost’s La Closerie is one of Champagne’s most singular grower estates, built around a belief in vineyard expression, old vines and minimal intervention. Based in Gueux, just west of Reims, Prévost established the domaine in 1998 after formative years working alongside Anselme Selosse, developing a philosophy that challenged the traditional perception of Pinot Meunier. His wines reveal a side of the variety rarely seen in Champagne, showing remarkable depth, texture and ageing potential. Farming organically with horse ploughing and a meticulous respect for vineyard balance, Prévost allows the sandy soils of Gueux to play a central role in the identity of his wines.
Les Béguines is the signature cuvée of La Closerie, sourced from Prévost’s historic vineyard in Gueux planted primarily with old vine Pinot Meunier on Thanetian sandy soils over clay. The LB23 base comes from the 2023 harvest, with the wine reflecting the generous texture and aromatic complexity that define this unique site. While centred around Meunier, the vineyard includes small proportions of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc, creating a field blend of remarkable nuance. The grapes are harvested by hand, fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts and aged in large format used barrels before secondary fermentation in bottle. Bottled without fining or filtration and finished with a low dosage, the wine offers aromas of ripe pear, red apple, citrus peel and wild flowers alongside toasted nuts, spice, chalk and subtle savoury notes. The palate is layered and expressive, combining Meunier’s natural generosity with fine acidity, mineral tension and a long, elegant finish.
