Jérôme Prévost La Closerie is one of Champagne’s most distinctive and sought after small grower estates, founded by Jérôme Prévost in 1998 in the village of Gueux, just west of Reims. Originally working alongside Anselme Selosse, Prévost developed a highly individual approach centred around old vine Pinot Meunier and a deep respect for vineyard expression. His wines challenge traditional perceptions of the grape, showing that Meunier can produce Champagne of remarkable depth, complexity and longevity. Working with tiny parcels on the sandy soils of Gueux, Prévost farms with minimal intervention, focusing on biodiversity, careful vineyard management and allowing each site to express itself naturally.
La Closerie & is the estate’s négociant cuvée, created during a difficult vintage when Prévost began working with neighbouring growers’ fruit while maintaining the same philosophy as his estate wines. Sourced primarily from vineyards around Gueux, planted on Thanetian sands, the wine is built around Pinot Meunier with fruit from additional carefully selected parcels. The cuvée is based on the 2023 harvest with reserve wine included to add complexity and continuity. Fermentation is spontaneous, with ageing in a range of used oak barrels before secondary fermentation in bottle, preserving the wine’s texture and individuality. The result is a deeply expressive Blanc de Noirs style Champagne, showing pear, yellow apple and citrus alongside dried flowers, hazelnut, spice and subtle oxidative complexity. The palate is generous yet precise, combining Meunier’s natural roundness with fine acidity, mineral tension and a long, savoury finish.
