Domaine Etienne Sauzet is a historic Puligny Montrachet estate founded in the early 20th century and now led by Benoît Riffault, who represents the next generation of stewardship following his family connection through marriage into the Sauzet lineage. The domaine is one of the reference names in Puligny Montrachet, with a strong focus on precision farming and highly controlled vineyard work across a significant holding of village and Premier Cru sites. Viticulture is certified organic and increasingly guided by biodynamic principles, with an emphasis on soil vitality, canopy balance and low yields. In the cellar, the style is defined by gentle pressing, long fermentations and restrained élevage in French oak, with a clear focus on tension, purity and mineral expression rather than overt richness or new oak influence.

Jardin du Calvaire is a Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Beaune Chardonnay sourced from higher altitude vineyards above the Côte de Beaune, where cooler conditions and limestone rich soils produce a distinctly fresher and more linear expression than the Puligny core holdings of the domaine. The site is exposed to greater diurnal variation, which preserves acidity and drives a more energetic style of fruit. In contrast to the more layered and textural Puligny wines, this cuvée is built around clarity and lift, showing citrus peel, green apple and white peach, with floral notes and a pronounced chalky, saline edge. The palate is taut and focused, with bright acidity and a long, mineral finish that reflects both elevation and limestone influence. Vinification follows the domaine’s restrained approach, with gentle pressing, fermentation in barrel and élevage in French oak with limited new wood to maintain precision and site definition.
