Domaine Belargus was created by Ivan Massonnat to revive and celebrate the historic crus of Anjou Noir, assembling an extraordinary collection of monopoles and terroirs once prized by the region’s greatest growers. The domaine centres on Chenin grown in the schist, quartz and volcanic soils that shape the hillsides of Savennières, Quarts de Chaume and the Layon valley. The vineyards are farmed organically and biodynamically, with meticulous canopy management, low yields and detailed parcel by parcel harvesting. Vinifications rely on indigenous yeasts, gentle pressing and patient ageing in large neutral vessels to reveal precision, tension and the layered mineral expression that Chenin achieves on these ancient slopes.
Anjou Bonnes Blanches 2021 is produced from a historic site long recognised for its ability to give Chenin both precision and aromatic lift. The schist rich soils and the cool, low yielding vintage combined to create a wine of exceptional finesse. Manual harvesting was completed parcel by parcel, with careful sorting to retain purity. Native yeast fermentation and ageing in older barrels encouraged subtle textural development. The style is lifted and expressive, with aromas of citrus blossom, beeswax, white peach and crushed stone supported by linear acidity.
