Château Lamery is one of the rare Bordeaux estates producing wines that challenge the modern image of the region. Based in Saint Pierre d’Aurillac in Entre Deux Mers, the family property was acquired by Jacques Broustet’s grandfather in 1935, but Jacques only became involved as a winemaker in the late 1990s after several different careers. In 2006 he returned permanently to the estate, abandoning synthetic chemicals and converting the vineyard to biodynamics. Inspired by the wines of Bordeaux’s past, Jacques describes his bottles as “vins autrefois” — wines from another time, when elegance, restraint and terroir were the defining qualities. Working with patience and minimal intervention, he has become one of Bordeaux’s most compelling natural wine producers, creating wines that are honest, timeless and deeply individual.

Autrement, meaning “in another way”, perfectly captures Jacques Broustet’s alternative vision of Bordeaux. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec, with proportions varying each vintage, the wine is produced from biodynamically farmed vineyards and made entirely without additions. Grapes are hand harvested, destemmed and fermented separately by variety in cement tanks using only indigenous yeasts, before being blended during élevage and aged in old oak and cement without racking, topping up or manipulation. Bottled unfined, unfiltered and with no added sulphur, the wine offers a beautifully rustic yet refined expression of Bordeaux, showing black cherry, cassis and plum alongside tobacco, dried herbs, graphite and earthy mineral notes. The palate is elegant and restrained, with fine tannins, freshness and a sense of quiet complexity that recalls an older, more graceful style of Bordeaux.
