Faugères “Valinière”, Domaine Leon Barral 2016
Leon Barral
Didier Barral, a man of conviction, began running the estate in 1990, in search of authentic expressions of its soil. Helped by his brother Jean-Luc, this obstinate winemaker has created a culture of fashion to respect the ecosystem, to promote interactions between the plant and animals and enhance immunity of the vine.
Dark red with violet hues, the nose is fine and delicate with aromas of raspberries, blackcurrants, Liquorice, violets and leather. The palate has generous fruit with a nice underlying freshness, good tannins and a long and elegant finish.

Winemaking Manual harvested, depending on the variety, grapes are de-stemmed (in general, grapes from the youngest vines), however whole clusters are also used. Wine is vinified in gravity-fed, cement cuves, fermented with natural yeasts. Maceration takes place for 3 to 4 weeks with regular, manual punch-downs in cement tanks. After maceration, grapes are lightly pressed with an old, wooden, vertical, basket press. Aged for 3 years in barrel (10% new oak)
